Hi everyone! I may be missing this, but it would be great to be able to search your manually added labels, as opposed to the entire transcriptions. I could potentially be adding labels/tags in wrong category when adding new items? In any case, Leo has proven extremely helpful so far! Extremely accurate as far as handwritten notes from the 19th century!
You’re not doing anything wrong. Currently the search function doesn’t include metadata. We’ll plan to fix this as soon as possible. Thanks Michael!

The search function has been overhauled and improved in the latest release! See the announcement about Leo v0.1.6 here.
I found the search functionality very helpful. The “Fuzzy” button is also nice, and it is use that you can choose the tolerance level. It would be very useful if you could save and export your search results.

Interesting! I had not thought about this feature. How would you use it, and in what formats would it be helpful to be able to export your search results?
For my research I am interested in identify documents the mention enslaved people so I search for words like “negro, slave, runaway, hand, etc.” If I could export search results as excel spreadscheet and save/edit my searches within Leo that would be VERY helpful! Having a list of images/files with keywords would help me to organize my records outside of Leo.
I didn’t initially spend much time exploring the search and organization tools because I was so focused on testing the transcription capabilities, but when I started using them, I was genuinely impressed. The search function worked smoothly and felt accurate, and I especially appreciated that it displayed a preview of the full sentence surrounding the search term along with the document title. That context makes it much easier to locate where a particular reference appears in a larger collection.
One feature that would be particularly useful for researchers would be the ability to group related files together—such as multiple folders or boxes from the same archival collection (for example, The Private Papers of Lieutenant Dan Bowden)—so that individual scans remain separate but can still be linked under a unified collection heading. That would make it easier to navigate large projects with overlapping materials.

Thank you for this feedback Danielle! You can filter for items from the same collection by using metadata filtering, in the “Items” tab on the full search view.
