Release notes: version 0.4.0
This release rebuilds most of the Leo app around user feedback: a clearer, more responsive app, with new tools for working on many documents at once
Major changes
New in this release
- Dark mode. A theme switch beside your account settings icon puts the whole app on a dark canvas.
- Multi-document upload. The upload modal now stages several documents at once, each with its own title and files, instead of one document each time.
- Folder upload. Drop a folder onto the library and Leo walks it, keeping its structure and turning the PDFs and subfolders inside it into separate documents.
- Recent documents. A collapsible widget above the folder tree lists the documents you opened or edited most recently.
- Panel layouts and split view. The transcription pane can be split to show two tabs at once, and the image and tabs can sit in several arrangements: image above, image top-left, or image only.
- Image adjustments. Brightness, contrast and colour inversion now sit alongside the viewer’s other controls.
Tabs and the transcription pane
- Passive state in the tab rail. Automatically hiding WYSIWYG controls when clicking away from the image viewer or image navigation tools so that more text is visible at a glance
- The transcription pane’s footer beneath the text box names the model that produced what you are reading and offers tips for getting better results.
The image viewer, rebuilt
- The viewer’s tools sit on their own bar. Rotation, cropping, page navigation and view settings are now a hideable toolbar along the bottom of the panel.
- Cropping has been rebuilt and is easier to place and adjust.
The information panel
- The metadata section has been redesigned so the most important fields read at a glance.
- The image list gains a thumbnail view, making it easier to naivgate between images.
- The image list now contains a transcription meter and the transcription status markers have been changed to icons for easier viewing.
- Batch controls now include rotation, so several images can be turned at once.
The library
- Folder chips. Folders are no longer rows in the table or tiles in the grid. They sit above the documents and show where a document lives, in the panel’s own order.
- Folders can be dragged within the tree to change their place in the hierarchy.
- Transcribe, Transform and Export appear only once documents are selected.
- Dropping one document onto another offers to merge them. Merging was previously reached from the document’s menu.
- Dropping images onto the library offers to create a document from them.
- Moving and copying images between documents happens in a single Transfer modal that states what each choice does.
- The folders panel collapses at any width. It previously collapsed only when the window was too narrow to hold it. It can now be toggled so that more documents are visible at a glance.
Phones and narrow windows
- Leo works on a phone. The folders and information panels become overlays, every secondary surface has a way back, and the warning against small screens is gone.
Minor changes
- New document is now Upload.
- A refused upload now retries automatically, rather than requiring the user to retry manually.
- A document still arriving has a spinning wheel where its cover will be, instead of showing an empty row.
- A taken tab name offers to link to the existing tab instead of refusing the name.
- Enter confirms in every modal, and the modal holds keyboard focus while it is open.
- Menus, tooltips and panel footers are drawn with the app’s own chrome rather than the component library’s defaults.
- Default modal sizes are consistent across the app.
- Scrollbars appear only where there is something to scroll.
- The Refer button has been removed from the document view.
- Sorting by Date modified now reflects when a document actually changed.
- … as well as many smaller aesthetic refinements and bug fixes!
