Release notes: version 0.2.3
In this release, we have overhauled the export functionality and fixed a couple of bugs. Issues with exports have previously been reported in several places (see here, here, here and here).
Export functionality
- Export speed: Exports are now much faster. Export jobs, like transcription jobs, are now queued so they make take longer at busy times.
- Large exports: Previously, large exports would not reliably succeed. Now exports with thousands of pages should work well.
- ZIP exports: ZIP exports, which include full-resolution images and HTML transcripts, can be large and take a little longer to export. To improve this experience, ZIP exports are now sent via email instead of being downloaded directly from Leo, so you don’t have to keep your browser open while waiting. They are still triggered in the same way as the other exports.
- Transcript formatting: All the transcript formatting you see in Leo is now faithfully preserved in all exports, including line breaks, strikethroughs, and tables
- HTML output format: The TXT output format (which cannot represent transcript formatting) has been replaced with the HTML output format. This can be opened in a web browser or text editor.
- TEI format: The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) format, which is a kind of XML format, is now supported for transcript exports
- Line break option: Preserving single line breaks in transcript exports is now configurable. If you switch this off, single line breaks are ignored but double line breaks (i.e. new paragraphs) are preserved.
- Annotations option: Whether or not annotations are included alongside transcripts is now also a configurable option
- File names: File names in exports have been updated to better reflect item and image names. Additionally, image names now have a page number prefix so that sorting these files alphanumerically preserves the page order in Leo.
- Job monitoring: Export jobs that download directly within Leo when they’re ready (all export formats except ZIP) are now shown in the task pane, along with image uploads, for easier monitoring
- Image ordering issue: An issue has been fixed in which the export image order followed the order in which thumbnails were selected, rather than maintaining the original page order (reported here and here)
- Thumbnail selection issue: An issue has been fixed in which not all export selection thumbnails were being shown (reported here)
Other updates
- Transcription status issue: An issue has been fixed in which submitting thousands of jobs at once overloaded the system due to too many transcript statuses to monitor
- Text size toggle: The ‘text size’ setting on the transcript/annotations text editor now applies across all of Leo, rather than needing to be set for each transcript/annotations editor
