I normally gather information about my documents into excel spreadsheets when I am in the archive because wifi reception can be very very spotty. Would it be possible to have an upload template for excel where we could mass upload information/meta data for the images that could then be linked to the document by the name of the JPEG or PDF? I am shooting from the hip here on this suggestion, but I would find this a useful feature that would actually get me to use the document storage side.
We’re planning to introduce bulk upload options (e.g., migrating from Transkribus or Zotero), but the challenge is ensuring that data comes in a consistent format. Since spreadsheets can be structured in many different ways, the ideal solution would be to let users “map” their columns and rows to our fields, though building that would be a significant development effort. A simpler approach could be to provide a pre-formatted upload template (e.g. Excel or CSV) with the fields we support. Users could then paste their data into the right columns before uploading, and our system would only need to check that the headers match. Would that work for your needs?
