Version 0.4.1 released

Release notes: version 0.4.1

Major changes

  • More models. The model menu is now grouped by provider (OpenAI, Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude). New models include GPT-6.1 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5.5, as well as OCR models including Google Vision. The menu opens on the model you used last.
  • Per-model pricing. Every third-party model now has its own price and you are shown the total for any transcription job before confirming. Most models cost less than one credit per image. Leo’s ATR-1 still costs one credit.
  • New search. Search results now appear in the main dashboard view, grouped by document. You can filter them by date, creator, archive or folder. Clicking a match opens it beside the results with the passage highlighted.
  • Whole-document transformations. Select several transcriptions and Leo will treat them as one text. You can produce a summary, classification, glossary, index, finding aid or chronology for the whole document. Each entry links back to the image it came from.
  • Generate metadata. Leo can now suggest a title, description, creator, date, archive and identifier based on a document’s transcriptions.
Right-click menus. You can now right-click documents, folders, images, tabs and empty space to get the same options as the ··· menu. On a touch screen, press and hold.
  • Improved Tasks panel. The Tasks panel now lists transcription and transformation runs alongside uploads and exports. It shows how far each one has got and which model it’s using, and explains any failure.
  • Payment history. You can now see receipts for all your past purchases in the app, including ones made before this release. They’re under Payment history in your account settings.
  • Plain-text export. You can now export transcriptions as a plain .txt file, as well as HTML.

Tabs and the transcription pane

  • Formatting toolbar replaced. The toolbar above the text has gone. When selecting text, a small menu now appears with bold, italic, lists, links and tables. Tables have their own controls for adding and removing rows and columns.
  • New tab design. Tabs are now smaller. A tab keeps its name while it’s running, and a dot shows when a run has just finished.
  • Save and status combined. The save button in the tab bar now also lets you change the transcription’s status.
  • Running two models at once. You can run a second model on an image while the first is still going. Each result goes in its own tab. This should now work faster and without glitches.
  • “Apply to” scope in Transcribe and Transform modals. You now choose which images to include, and what to do with ones that are already transcribed, in a single window. The cost is shown there too, so the extra confirmation dialogs are gone.
  • Whole-document annotations. Whole-document tabs appear on the left of the tab bar on every image.
  • More layouts. There are now ten layout options, and you can have up to four tabs open at once beside the image, side by side or stacked.
  • Raw view. The ··· menu at the bottom of a transcription lets you switch between the formatted text and the raw version.
  • Warnings when a transcription stops early. If a model hits its length limit or starts repeating itself, a warning appears at the bottom of the transcription.

The information panel

  • Tidier metadata. Only fields with something in them are shown. Empty fields appear as “Add” buttons underneath, replacing the old “more fields” row.
  • Structured dates. A date can be a year, a month or a full date, approximate (“c. 1590”) or a range. Dates are written out in words, and you can convert old free-text dates with one click.
  • Suggestions as you type. Fields like creator, archive and identifier suggest values you’ve used before.
  • Set the status of several images. Use “Mark as” in the batch menu to change the status of every selected image.
  • Sort images by name, status or date modified, in either direction.
  • Tab icons in the image list. Each image shows a small icon for each type of tab it has.

The library

  • Folders are back in the list. Folders now appear at the top of the document list, as rows in table view and tiles in grid view, with a count of their subfolders.
  • Smoother navigation. Opening a document now slides it into view, and Back takes you to where you were in the list.
  • No more pages. Documents now load as you scroll, and when you come back from a document you return to the same place.
  • Select all selects everything. Select all now selects every document in the current view, including ones that haven’t loaded yet.
  • Duplicate documents from the document menu or the batch menu. The copy includes every image, tab and transcription.
  • Add to folder and Move to. Documents now have an “Add to folder…” option, and folders have “Move to…”.
  • Dragging into folders. If you hold a document over a folder while dragging, the folder opens so you can drop it into a subfolder.
  • Folders panel redesign. Folders have icons, and the folder you’re in is shown in bold.

Search

  • Filter chips. Each filter you apply shows as a chip that you can remove. Picking several values in one filter finds documents that match any of them.
  • Filters apply when you click Done. Ticking a box no longer re-runs the search straight away.
  • Searching within a document shows the results in the side panel. Clicking one takes you to that image and tab.
  • Searching a folder or shared folder now includes its subfolders.

Sharing

  • Sharing is quicker. Opening the Share window now creates the link straight away.
  • Share the primary transcription. A share can now show each image’s primary transcription. New shares include every tab unless you choose otherwise.
  • Shared folders look like your own library. They show the folder’s cover image and description, and visitors can browse subfolders and export documents.
  • Copying from shares. If you’re not signed in, Copy takes you to sign in and then back to the same image. Signed-in users can copy several documents from a shared folder at once.
  • Folder shares and copying. New folder shares have copying turned off by default. A folder’s “Allow copying” setting no longer overrides a document’s own share settings.

Phones and tablets

  • Back works as expected. On a phone, Back now closes whatever you just opened, like a menu or a dialog.
  • Easier to tap. Buttons have bigger touch targets, and menus open from the bottom of the screen.
  • More room to read. On a phone, the top bar and footer hide as you scroll through a transcription. The library scrolls as a single page, so your browser’s address bar can shrink.
  • Search on a phone fills the top bar while you type and shows your recent searches.
  • Faster images on a phone. A smaller version loads first, and the full image loads when you zoom in.
  • iPad. Tapping a text field no longer zooms in, image list controls are visible without hovering, and the transformations window no longer gets stuck.

Models and credits

  • Transformations now need a Standard plan or above and are subject to fair use. Free plan users will see an option to upgrade. The transform window shows how much you’ve used this billing period.
  • Clearer limits. Upload and copy windows now check your storage and credits when they open, so you know before you start if you don’t have enough.
  • Custom plans now show their own name and limits in the subscription panel.

Minor changes

  • Tasks panel. Running tasks are listed first, then waiting, then finished. Uploads are grouped by document, and failed uploads have a Try again button.
  • Opening images from the side panel. Double-clicking an image in the dashboard or search side panel opens the document, and Enter opens the image currently shown.
  • Menus are now as wide as their longest option and look the same throughout the app.
  • Icons and loading spinners are now consistent across the app.
  • Right-click the Leo logo to get back to the library or homepage, or to see which version you’re using.
  • Clearer folder deletion warning. It now explains that documents stay in All documents and that subfolders will be deleted too.
  • Show tips now opens a full-screen guide that points out the rotate and crop tools.
  • Version history has a new timeline design.
  • The sign-in and sign-up pages now match the homepage.
  • Adding a link opens a small box next to the text. You can leave out “https://”.
  • Recent documents stays collapsed until you open it.
  • Export always includes a “Primary transcription” option, ticked by default.
  • “Make primary” for all images now only applies to images that have that tab, and tells you how many.
  • Dark mode menus and dividers are easier to see.
  • Signing out now clears the Recent documents list in that browser.
  • Failed transcription notices now show on whichever device you use next, and only once.
  • … as well as many smaller aesthetic refinements

Bug fixes

  • Images that are transcribing now show as transcribing everywhere, and runs are no longer marked as finished too early.
  • Running a different model no longer overwrites another model’s tab.
  • The arrow keys now move between tabs in the order they’re shown.
  • Editing a transcription no longer loses formatting such as italics, strikethrough and tables.
  • Text typed just before moving to the next image is now saved.
  • Dragging one document onto another to merge them now works even after you’ve clicked on a document.
  • A chosen cover image now stays chosen inside folders and in the export window, and displays sharply straight away.
  • Tables in PDF and HTML exports now keep their borders.
  • Export no longer counts empty tabs as content.
  • Primary transcriptions are now always searchable, including on images that have transformations.
  • The New folder, New subfolder and Rename boxes are ready to type in as soon as they open.
  • Deleting a folder now deletes its subfolders properly.
  • Rotating a large batch of images is much faster.
  • The upload panel no longer opens by itself.
  • The crop toolbar now fits in narrow panes.
  • A keyboard shortcut no longer changes text alignment by accident, and pressing F no longer flips the image.
  • Menus now close with a single click outside them.
  • Dragging to resize a panel no longer opens a menu.
  • The “Coupon redeemed” message shows again after you redeem a coupon.
  • Subscription dates now read like “7 Oct 2026”, and the account window fits on a phone screen.
  • Signing in from a shared link now takes you back to the share.
  • Security improvements on the server.

The website

  • Redesigned homepage. We’ve redesigned the homepage, with new videos of Leo in action and case studies from historians using Leo.
  • Dashboard button. When you’re signed in, the homepage button now says Dashboard.
